“The Brazilian people need to be respected,” writes Lula, at X, amid tariffs
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) spoke on Saturday, through an X post, former Twitter, writing that “the Brazilian people need to be respected.”
The publication takes place in the midst of the economic and political crisis triggered after the imposition, from August 1, from a 50% rate to Brazilian products imported by the US.
“Brazilian justice needs to be respected. We are a large, sovereign country, and historical diplomatic traditions with all countries. Brazil will adopt the necessary measures to protect its people and companies,” said Lula’s post, reinforcing that the issue “is about respect and sovereignty.”

Trump tariffs
This Friday (11), President Lula intensified the attacks to former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and licensed deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), directly relating the Bolsonaro family performance to the US decision to apply a 50% tariff on Brazilian products.
The measure, announced by US President Donald Trump, entered the center of the national political dispute, rekindling the antagonism between petistas and bolsonarists.
The Planalto Palace has invested in the narrative that the “tariff” imposed by Trump configures unacceptable interference with Brazilian sovereignty, seeking to displace the debate to the field of nationalism.
