Eduardo Bolsonaro says he can resign his mandate and extend “exile” in the US
Licensed federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) said on Monday (14) that “most likely” will give up the parliamentary mandate.
Former President Jair Bolsonaro’s son has been in the United States since March, when he ordered a license from the House alleging persecution by Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF).
“My date to return is when Alexandre de Moraes no longer have the strength to arrest me,” the parliamentarian told the newspaper The State of S. Paulo.

Eduardo Bolsonaro’s parliamentary license wins next Sunday, July 20. The permanence in the US, according to him, is still strategic.
In an interview with S.Paulo Folhahe said he considers to leave the position: “I still have my advisor inputs. I can’t beat the hammer if there is an alternative. But if necessary, I don’t go back to Brazil, ”he said.

Remote mandate
Eduardo cited the possibility of a possible change in the Chamber’s regiment that would allow the exercise of the distance office in “very exceptional” situations. The measure, however, is not on official agenda and would require wide political support.
Eduardo’s allies evaluate that the permanence outside Brazil also protects the deputy from a possible request for arrest. He has no suspended mandate and there is no court order for his arrest, but is the subject of an inquiry for obstruction of justice and attack on the Democratic Rule of Law.
Investigated by articulations
The decision to stay in the US gained new weight with the diplomatic crisis between Brazil and the United States, after President Donald Trump announces 50% tariffs on Brazilian products. Eduardo Bolsonaro’s name was cited by governors as one of the articulators of the sanctions, along with American parliamentarians and entrepreneurs.
In April, Moraes complied with the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and opened an investigation to investigate Eduardo’s international performance. The PGR points out that he tried to influence foreign authorities to sanction STF ministers, Federal Police prosecutors and delegates.
Last week, Moraes extended the investigation for another 60 days, after request by the Federal Police, which wants to complete pending steps.
Political dispute
Eduardo’s permanence in the US occurs as his father, Jair Bolsonaro, also became the center of the US government’s speech. In a recent statement, Trump stated that Brazil “is doing a horrible thing” by pursuing Bolsonaro, and that the surcharge has political motivation.
Lula government allies maintain that Eduardo’s presence in Washington intensifies the narrative war and feeds a parallel foreign policy, with risk of internal affairs in Brazil.
