Motta about Eduardo Bolsonaro: ‘parliamentarian working for damage to Brazil’
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), said he does not agree with the conduct of a parliamentarian who acts in favor of measures that bring damage to Brazil, commenting on the situation of the mandate of federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP).
In an interview with Veja magazine, on the morning of Monday, 11, Motta said that “this kind of behavior cannot be admitted.” According to the mayor, the Council of Ethics and Parliamentary Decorus should impartially analyze the case. Former President Jair Bolsonaro’s son is the target of an action at the PT accused of inciting Donald Trump’s government to adopt economic measures against Brazil.
“Each parliamentarian has his own autonomy and freedom to act with what he understands to be important to represent his electorate. I cannot agree with the attitude of a parliamentarian who is abroad, working often so that measures reach his home country and bring damage to the country’s economy,” said Motta.
The mayor continued: “This cannot be admitted. For our part, we have a position contrary to this kind of behavior. We do not agree with this kind of attitude, we have to defend our country.”
“And I think Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro could even be defending politically something he believes, defending the innocence of former President Jair Bolsonaro, but never paying attention against the country. Because when that happens, I think neither his voters nor his supporters agree,” he said.
“No one can agree to have their country being harmed by the attitude of a parliamentarian. It does not seem to me to be correct and it does not seem to be consistent with the posture of a federal deputy.”
Regarding Eduardo’s situation in the Ethics Council, Motta promised that the House’s performance will be “within the regiment”.

“With regard to the issues inherent to his mandate, we will treat Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro as we will deal with any parliamentarian. For this presidency, there is no parliamentarian who is more deputy than another. There is no such thing on our part,” he said.
“So, within regiment, within what our counsel of ethics governs, it is how we will deal with Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, without having any privilege and also no damage because he is having this behavior. We have to act impartiality,” he added.
Amnesty approval
Motta has again stated that he sees difficulties in approving an unrestricted amnesty to those involved in the scammer acts of 8 January 2023, but said that the amnesty format will still be the subject of debates among the leaders of the stands.
The deputy said that he has no “prejudice” with any agenda and that the opposition may continue with the defense of amnesty, but within normality.
During physical obstruction in the plenary, opposition parliamentarians also defended the end of the privileged forum and impeachment of Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF). According to Motta, physical obstruction “exceeded the limits of the regiment” and configured a “wrong form” of pressure.
“I think the opposition can continue legitimately, defending these guidelines, defending within the college of leaders, seeking adhesion. Some center right parties have signaled possible support for this or that agenda,” he said.
“So, resuming this forum, resuming normality, the opposition can continue to defend these matters and so many others that are in your interest, but without some way wanting to make the work.”
The mayor also said he will not obstruction when legislative proposals have the support of the majority. “When you have a built majority, this presidency will never obstruct the plenary, obstruct the voting agendas,” he said.
Asked if it is in favor of the general amnesty, Motta replied that he does not intend to give opinion. “What I feel here within the environment that I talk about, the contact I have with the parliamentarians is that there is some difficulty with the broad, general and unrestricted amnesty,” he said.
“Also because it is important to remember that we had people death planning. This is very serious. I do not know if there is an environment to amnesty who acted that way. I think not. But this story will be widely debated, its format, its possible vote or not,” he said.

The president of the house also said that he is awaiting the position of the Parliamentary Corregedoria on the representations against 14 parliamentarians who participated in the occupation of the Plenary last week.
According to Motta, the Corregedoria will make an analysis and suggestion of positioning about the situation of each deputy. Then the table will refer the opinion to the Council of Ethics and Parliamentary Decorus.
“We understand that the Corregedoria is the one who has this ability to make this investigation. And then we will wait now what will be the position of the corregedor on this subject, this sad event that happened last week, here in the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies,” he said.
Subsequently, Motta said obstruction is an instrument provided for in the chamber regiment, but physical obstruction, no. “What was done last week was a physical obstruction that surpasses the limits of the house’s internal regiment. A movement in which, through physical force, the work was conducted,” he said.
“Now, let’s wait for the corregedor’s referral, which will analyze the behavior of each parliamentarian who participated in this movement, and from there he will suggest to the table his position, and the referral will be made to the House Ethics Council.”
The Parliamentary Corregedoria is under the management of Deputy Diego Coronel (PSD-BA). The organ has 48 hours to speak up. The deadline counts from this Monday, since the decision of the Board of Directors of the Corregedoria that requests punishment to parliamentarians occurred on Friday.
INSS CPMI
Also in the interview, the mayor stated that the rapporteur of the Mixed Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) that will investigate fraud in the benefits of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) should be appointed in the coming days.
“We should indicate, in the coming days, the rapporteur of this CPMI,” said Motta. In the Senate, there is an agreement for Senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM) to the commission.
According to Motta, the House and Senate will defend an “impartial investigation and the possible punishment of all those who committed crimes” against retirees and pensioners.
