Is it our thing? Which countries do have healthcare system similar to SUS?
The NHS (English for National Health Service) was born in 1948. It is one of the oldest public health systems in the world and has inspired SUS. With the same principles of universality, integrality and gratuity, mostly it works in a decentralized and hierarchical manner.
The entrance door is through a generalist doctor. He analyzes the case, asks for exams, prescribes medicines and directs to expert if necessary. At the local level, clinics come together to form the primary care network, sharing resources and working in cooperation. But some services, such as optical and dental, can be paid.
For emergency services, people can go straight to hospitals. For non -emergency care, number 111 is available to evaluate the person’s condition and direct to proper care. NHS is funded by the government through tax collection.
Canada
The Canadian Medicare is a universal health system funded by taxes. The federal government defines and manages the national standards of care and transfers resources to territories and provinces. It is these who decide who qualifies to receive public health insurance.
Each province and territory also determines the services that will be covered. But all offer basic care that includes hospitalization, medical care and some surgical and dental services. When not covered, the service is paid.
