‘Trump put Netanyahu in the corner’, says Raquel Landim
And this turning point happens in September, when Trump starts trying to broker this peace agreement. And a negotiation is taking place in Qatar and Israeli forces kill Hamas negotiators inside Qatar. This for Trump is a very strong aggression, something totally unacceptable under international laws there, under the laws that govern wars.

After this episode, Landim reports that Trump took an unprecedented step towards Netanyahu, imposing conditions and public humiliation to force negotiations to move forward.
Then, in October, Netanyahu is called to the White House for a briefing. Trump forces him to call the emir of Qatar and read an apology written by the White House. So, this is a very humiliating moment for Netanyahu and where Trump draws a line on the ground and starts to pressure him more firmly to reach a ceasefire.
Raquel Landim
For the columnist, Trump’s increased pressure put Netanyahu against the wall and accelerated the agreement, even with resistance from the Israeli prime minister.
I think this is a crucial moment, where Trump starts to apply more pressure and leave Netanyahu in the corner. Netanyahu did not want this agreement, the war there was very important for Netanyahu to stay in power, so much so that he is in a delicate situation today without having the war to continue justifying his stay in power.
