EU plans construction of ‘anti-drone wall’ by 2027 with help from Ukraine
NATO had to resort to expensive missiles to shoot down three of these drones.
To implement this new defense system, the EU intends to take advantage of the experience gained by Ukraine since the invasion by the Russian Army in February 2022.
The former Soviet republic, which now boasts a drone manufacturing industry and especially a drone interceptor industry unique in Europe, has pledged its support.
The EU wants to implement a detection system using ground-based or satellite sensors from next year, before acquiring drone tracking and interception capabilities by 2027.
This initiative will initially be implemented in the countries closest to the Russian border, on the EU’s eastern flank, before being extended to other EU states, according to the Commission’s proposal.
