Giant US aircraft carrier arrives in the Caribbean Sea and threatens Venezuela
Admiral Alvin Holsey, commander of the operation, stated that the arrival of the aircraft carrier reinforces the security of American territory. “Through unwavering commitment and the precise use of our forces, we stand ready to combat transnational threats that seek to destabilize our region,” he said in a statement on the DVIDS website.
This is the most lethal aircraft carrier in the world. “Our nation’s leaders have called the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group, the world’s most capable, adaptable and lethal platform, to where it counts. Our force will expand existing capabilities to protect our nation’s security and prosperity against narco-terrorism in the Western Hemisphere,” Rear Adm. Paul Lanzilotta told AP.
The Gerald R. Ford has a large team on board: there are more than four thousand sailors responsible for operating a vessel that can “catapult launch and recover fixed-wing aircraft on its flight deck, day and night, in support of assigned operations,” according to DVIDS.
The vessel is anchored in Trinidad and Tobago, close to the coast of Venezuela. There, sailors will conduct exercises and training with the United States Army throughout the week. The Venezuelan government has not yet officially commented on the arrival of the aircraft carrier, but described the training as an act of aggression against the country.
