Presidency Ethics Commission removes conflict and releases Messiah for hearing
The Attorney General of the Union (AGU), Jorge Messias, received on Monday, the 15th, a favorable opinion from the Public Ethics Commission of the Presidency of the Republic. The demonstration removes questions about possible conflict of interests and should be used as support during the hearing in the Senate for the vacancy on the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
Since 2023, Messias has been a member of the board of directors of BrasilPrev, a company linked to Banco do Brasil. The accumulation of the position led to the analysis of the case by the Ethics Committee, which followed the understanding of counselor Marcelise de Miranda Azevedo and concluded that there was no illegality in the relationship.
Messiah’s nomination to the STF is rejected by 45% and approved by 30%, according to research
Last month, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) appointed Messias to occupy the seat vacated by Luís Roberto Barroso in the Court
The hearing in the Senate was scheduled for the beginning of next year, with the resumption of legislative work. A date was set in December, but it was canceled by the president of the House, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), because the nomination had not yet been formally forwarded by the Palácio do Planalto.
During an interview in Brasília this Thursday, the 18th, president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated that there was an impasse in Messias’ nomination, but said that he will continue with the name of the current attorney general of the Union to replace former minister Luis Roberto Barroso.
