Tarcísio enters the Havaianas controversy and says that SP starts 2026 ‘on the right foot’
Amid the repercussion of the new Havaianas commercial, the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), used the inauguration of the first section of the Rodoanel Norte to ride the wave and suggest that the State will start 2026 on the right foot.
“Here in São Paulo we’re going to start the new year off on the right foot. We’ve already started taking trucks off the road. And even those who race in Interlagos wanted to come to the Rodoanel Norte inauguration party”, he said in a video published on his X this Monday, 22nd.
Alpargatas shares close higher and erase losses generated by advertising controversy
Market value of Alpargatas, maker of Havaianas, soars: preferred shares (ALPA4) rise more than 3% and common shares (ALPA3) jump 5%
Store in Brusque (SC) sells Havaianas for R$1 to burn stock after boycott
The establishment announced that it would stop selling the “brand for an indefinite period”, claiming that the advertising campaign represented a provocation to the conservative population, “of which we are part”
The speech makes reference to the Havaianas end-of-year campaign starring Fernanda Torres, in which the actress plays with the expression “right foot” and says she prefers to hope that the public enters 2026 “with both feet”. The piece is part of the brand’s summer action.
The pun, however, fueled polarization: part of the public read the message as a provocation to the right.
The reaction gained traction on the networks, with encouragement for a boycott and hashtags such as #Havaianas NuncaMais and #HavaianasNoLixo; former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) published a video discarding a pair of flip-flops in the trash.
