Bolsonaro leaves prison and is admitted to a hospital in Brasília for surgery
Former president Jair Bolsonaro left the superintendence of the Federal Police in Brasília this Wednesday morning (24) and was admitted to the DF Star Hospital to undergo surgery to correct a bilateral inguinal hernia. He was released from prison at around 9:30 am, and he arrived at the hospital in around five minutes.
Bolsonaro’s doctor says the former president’s surgery should last 3 to 4 hours
Doctor says ‘all surgery is complex’, but this one should be much simpler compared to the operation carried out in April
Bolsonaro will be monitored by PF agents 24 hours a day during hospitalization
Moraes prohibited the entry of computers, cell phones or ‘any electronic devices into the former president’s room
The hospitalization will be accompanied by a strict security scheme, with 24-hour surveillance by the Federal Police. At least two agents will remain permanently at the door of the hospital room, and access will be controlled, prohibiting the entry of cell phones and other electronic devices, except necessary medical equipment.
Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro is authorized to accompany the former president throughout his hospitalization, while visits from other family members depend on specific judicial authorization. The defense had requested the entry of his sons Flávio and Carlos Bolsonaro, but the request was denied by minister Alexandre de Moraes.
This Wednesday, Bolsonaro will undergo clinical, laboratory and imaging exams to prepare for surgery, which is scheduled for Thursday morning, Christmas Day. The procedure should last between three and four hours, and the medical team will release daily bulletins on the progress of the condition.
Despite the hospitalization, Minister Moraes highlighted that authorization for treatment does not alter compliance with the 27-year and three-month sentence imposed on the former president for attempting a coup d’état. The expectation is that Bolsonaro will remain in the hospital for between five and seven days for recovery and post-operative monitoring.
