Simone Tebet signs membership with the PSB to run for the Senate in São Paulo

The Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, joined the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) this Friday, 27th, to be a candidate for the Federal Senate in São Paulo.

Tebet was welcomed by the party in an act of membership in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp). The event was attended by vice-president Geraldo Alckmin, federal deputy Tabata Amaral – both directly involved in the minister’s affiliation -, as well as the minister of Entrepreneurship, Márcio França, and the state president of the PSB, state deputy Caio França.

Tebet had already announced his departure from MDB, the party he stayed in for almost 30 years and where he built his political career.

The party change was necessary to make the candidacy for the Senate viable, since, in the State, the MDB is an ally of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

Tebet will run on Fernando Haddad’s ticket, PT’s pre-candidate for governor of São Paulo.

As shown by Estadão, Tebet’s membership opened an impasse in São Paulo’s PSB, which also has minister Márcio França asking for space on the ticket.
