Rede and PSOL ask PGR to investigate Flávio for possible attack on sovereignty
A group of deputies from PSOL and Rede asked the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to investigate senator and presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) for a possible attack on national sovereignty. The representation cites the parliamentarian’s work with the Donald Trump government in defense of the classification of the First Capital Command (PCC) and the Red Command (CV) as terrorist organizations.
In a statement, the general coordinator of Flávio’s pre-campaign, senator Rogério Marinho, stated: “If the crime they accuse us of is seeking support from friendly nations to suffocate the factions’ finances and join forces to protect the population from terror and violence, we accept this guilt with conviction” (read the full note at the end of the article).

In representation, parliamentarians allied with the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government claim that Flávio and other members of the Bolsonaro family have acted to encourage intervention by the United States government in Brazil’s internal affairs, which, according to them, is an affront to the country’s sovereignty.
The document cites Flávio’s visit to the American president, Donald Trump, last Tuesday, 26th, when the senator stated that he defended the designation of the criminal groups PCC and CV as global terrorist organizations. The following day, the senator met with the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, with whom he also discussed the topic.

The designation was announced by the Trump administration the day after the meeting with Rubio. The measure, however, had already been studied for months by the American government. On social media, Flávio celebrated the decision: “Great day!”
To support the thesis that Flávio influenced the decision, the representation of PSOL and Rede deputies cites a report from The New York Times according to which the Trump administration’s decision was taken after “months of aggressive lobbying by the children of the imprisoned former president, Jair Bolsonaro, a close ally of Trump”.
The document – signed by federal deputies Fernanda Melchionna (PSOL-RS), Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL-SP), Duda Salabert (PSOL-MG), Luiza Erundina (PSOL-SP), Heloísa Helena (Rede-RJ), Luizianne Lins (Rede-CE) and deputy Chico Alencar (PSOL-RJ) – states that the designation could cause “relevant impacts” in the country.

According to them, in addition to enabling the imposition of economic sanctions on Brazilian financial institutions, the classification opens up, under US domestic law, the legal possibility of military intervention by the United States in the areas where these organizations operate, without the Brazilian government’s absence.
The deputies also argue that the Federal Constitution is explicit in determining that the President of the Republic is exclusively responsible for “maintaining relations with foreign States and accrediting their diplomatic representatives” and “celebrating international treaties, conventions and acts”. Therefore, the parliamentarians maintain that, by traveling to Washington and supposedly obtaining an administrative decision from the American government with concrete effects on Brazil, Flávio Bolsonaro would have “usurped the exclusive competence of the Head of the Executive Branch, characterizing, in theory, an invasion of the sphere of diplomatic competence of the Union”.
According to the deputies, Flávio would have used his mandate as senator to “on foreign soil, invite a foreign government to intervene in Brazil’s internal affairs, with a direct impact on national sovereignty, the financial system, the electoral process and the territorial integrity of the country”, in what would be a “negotiation against the interests of the country itself.”

In the representation, the deputies ask the PGR to initiate a federal police investigation to investigate the case and adopt the relevant administrative and civil measures. They also request that the facts be communicated to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), so that it can assess the existence of elements that constitute abuse of power or foreign influence in the electoral process.
Note from the general coordinator of Flávio Bolsonaro’s pre-campaign:
The representation of PSOL and Rede against senator Flávio Bolsonaro is yet another demonstration that the Brazilian left is trying to use the Judiciary as an extension of its political project. It is unacceptable that, while Brazil suffers under the rule of criminal factions, parliamentarians mobilize to criminalize the effort to seek international cooperation against terrorism. The same political camp that today calls for “sovereignty” was the one that, for years, traveled the world denouncing its own country and seeking foreign interference for ideological reasons. If the crime they accuse us of is seeking support from friendly nations to strangle the factions’ finances and join forces to protect the population from terror and violence, we accept this guilt with conviction. While the left protects those who have intimate relationships with crime, we will continue to focus on dismantling the organizations that today dominate territories and hold millions of Brazilians hostage. National sovereignty serves to guarantee the safety of law-abiding citizens, and not to serve as a shield for those who terrorize the people.
