Israel intensifies aerial bombardments in Lebanon this Sunday
The Israeli army, in turn, reported a “selective and limited” operation in southern Lebanon, as well as “hand-to-hand combat” with Hezbollah. Israel also announced that it had captured a Lebanese militia fighter in a tunnel, “destroyed (its) infrastructure along the border” and killed “dozens” of fighters.
Israel’s aerial bombardments have been intensified since midnight on Saturday, according to information from the official Lebanese news agency. “At around 03:45” (local time, 21:45 in Brasília), a bombing “completely” destroyed an ancient mosque in the center of the city of Kfar Tibnit, the agency reported.
This Sunday alone, the Israeli army said it had intercepted five projectiles coming from Lebanon and called for the evacuation of about 20 additional cities in the south of the country. Yesterday, the military had already advised residents of 23 villages to “not return to their homes.”
Several Lebanese Red Cross rescuers were injured this Sunday in a bombing of a house in the south, where they were sent “in coordination” with the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Israel transferred most of its operations to the Lebanese front a month ago, with the aim of driving Hezbollah away from the border areas and allowing the return of around 60,000 Israelis who had to abandon their homes in northern Israel due to the rocket launch by the Shiite group.
On Saturday night, an Israeli attack targeted a market in the town of Nabatiyeh, about ten kilometers from the border with Israel in southern Lebanon, the official Lebanese news agency ANI reported.
