Kamala and Trump prioritized undecided voters and traveled less during this year’s campaign
Campaigns this year are largely focused on visits to seven swing states, Axios highlighted. The candidates visited some cities more than once, such as Harris, who went to Philadelphia five times, and Trump, who went to Las Vegas three times.
Considering the last five elections, between 2024 and 2008, Kamala only surpassed Biden’s numbers in 2020. At the time, the current president was in 42 cities, but the world was suffering from restrictions due to the covid-19 pandemic. Despite this, Trump was in 64 cities on the campaign trail that year.
In 2016, when Trump beat Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, the Republican visited 92 cities, compared to 46 for his opponent. In the previous election, despite Republican Mitt Romney having visited 80 cities, Democrat Barack Obama, who visited 51 cities, was re-elected.
The 2008 campaigns were those with the most trips between September and October. Barack Obama, who was elected, was in 96, against 93 for his Republican opponent, John McCain.
For the survey, Axios only counted trips with public events. Private fundraising visits or media interviews were excluded.
