Where were US presidents born? Names are spread across 21 states
According to Newsweek magazine, Virginia’s advantage over other states occurs because it was one of the Thirteen Colonies that formed the United States of America. They declared independence from England on July 4, 1776, with a declaration drawn up by Thomas Jefferson.
The American War of Independence lasted until 1781 and was led by George Washington. However, England recognized the independence of the Thirteen Colonies of North America only in 1783.
Curiosities
Among the curiosities of politicians’ births is the case of President Andrew Jackson, the seventh American president, who was born on the border between present-day North Carolina and South Carolina in 1767. As a result, the place of birth was disputed by the states due to his supposed birthplaces are only a few kilometers away.
At the time of his birth, according to the Waxhaws Museum website (located in North Carolina), the border between the states had not been drawn.
However, Andrew wrote a letter in 1824 claiming to have been born on his uncle’s farm in South Carolina and approved a map at that time indicating that his home was in the state’s Lancaster County, according to NBC News. He also reportedly said several times that he was born in the southern state. Some sources report, however, that the speech took place in the context of South Carolina being in conflict with the federal government and Andrew would have made the statements to ease tensions with the state.
