PGR will only decide whether or not to denounce Bolsonaro next year, says Gonet
The Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), Paulo Gonet, stated that the PGR’s statement regarding the Federal Police (PF) investigation involving former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), accused of an attempted coup d’état, should be postponed. the next year. In an interview with CNN Brasil, Gonet highlighted the “huge complexity” of the case, which has 37 defendants.
“This is a case of enormous complexity, including the number of people involved. Whatever the next demonstration may be, it has to be very responsible and carried out in a considered, safe and fair way”, he said, in an interview with the broadcaster in Lisbon, where he participates in the Brazil Europe Integration Forum (FIBE).
Gonet highlighted that the analysis of the investigation requires an “in-depth study” by a PGR task force, which will evaluate “whatever the measure: complaint, archiving, or request for further investigations”. According to him, “a position in two weeks is unlikely”.

Asked by CNN Brasil if this was an indication that the decision would be postponed until next year, he acknowledged that it was “quite possible”. “There cannot be any haste in this process”, added the Attorney General of the Republic.
Understand the procedural rite
With the report finalized by the PF, it is up to Gonet to continue with the legal procedure, which provides three possible paths for the process to be processed. Upon receipt of the 884-page document, the PGR will begin to look into it and may file a complaint against Bolsonaro and 36 other defendants, which will place them in the dock.
In other words, the body, which is responsible for the criminal action, may or may not file a complaint with the Court. If you understand that the police authority, in this case the PF, is correct in its investigations, the complaint opens criminal proceedings against the accused.
The prosecutor may also assess that there is still a lack of more evidence to support a complaint, which would make him request new steps into the case so that the PF investigations can continue.

Gonet may also decide not to pursue the complaint, ordering the case to be closed. In this way, the accused once again has no criminal implications, as he has not been formally accused of any crime relating to this investigation.
If a complaint is sent by the PGR to the Supreme Court, the Court may or may not accept the statement. If accepted, those reported become defendants and will be tried by the Judiciary.
