For Haddad, Congress has enough time to approve a fiscal package this year

The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, said this Wednesday (10) that the tight schedule for processing the spending containment package in the National Congress is enough to approve the matters in both Houses, just over a week before the recess parliamentary.

In an interview with journalists outside the Treasury, Haddad stated that there are still no definitions regarding possible changes in the texts sent to Congress, but that the technical teams are meeting with the rapporteurs assigned to the texts and said he is optimistic about the progress.

“We are answering questions, if we need to improve the writing, we will improve the writing, but the objective is to meet the goals established in the disclosure and we are confident that we will achieve those values”, said Haddad, responding with “it is enough”, when asked asked if a week would be enough for approval.

According to the minister, the set of proposals is “adequate and politically viable” and there is greater understanding of the need to adjust the wording of the texts.

But in addition to the difficulties directly related to the package, parliamentarians hope that an impasse over the payment of amendments will be resolved so that voting can resume at a good pace, especially in the Chamber.

Last week, deputies approved, by a very small margin of votes, the urgency regime in the processing of the two projects in the fiscal package sent by the Executive.

On Tuesday, the federal government published an ordinance detailing procedures and deadlines for releasing parliamentary amendments.

Asked about how the government will ensure the release of the amendments within the tight deadline before the parliamentary recess, Haddad only said that they will be paid in the manner established by the Federal Supreme Court.
