USA: Survivors of the ‘rape club’ will receive millionaire compensation
What happened in Dublin was not just a failure of supervision – it was cultural rot, where sexual abuse became part of prison operations. This settlement represents justice for 103 courageous women who refused to remain silent and fought to ensure their voices were heard. lawyer Jessica Pride
The BOP (Federal Bureau of Prisons, the federal agency responsible for federal prisons in the USA) confirmed the agreement on Tuesday (17). According to a statement received by The New York Times, the agency said it “strongly condemns all forms of sexually abusive behavior and takes seriously its duty to protect the individuals in our custody as well as maintain the safety of our employees and community.”
Compensation will be distributed among the 103 women, in proportion to the “trauma they suffered”. The settlement took into account allegations made over the past three to five years and involved around 25 prison officers and medical staff.
Prison in Dublin was closed by the US federal government earlier this month. The agency cited a lack of staff, infrastructure problems and high cost of living in the area.
