Government of SP announces adjustment to train and subway fares from January: R$ 5.20
Just as the city of São Paulo did with bus fares, the state government announced, on the afternoon of this Thursday (26), the adjustment of the price of train and Metro tickets, which will now be R$5. .20 from January 6, 2025.
In relation to the previous rate, there will be an increase of R$0.20 (4%). Currently, the ticket costs R$5.
According to the state Secretariat for Metropolitan Transport, the fare adjustment takes into account “the maintenance and sustainability of the system” and ensures “the principle of reasonable fares”.

“The most equitable scenario from a social and economic-financial point of view of the system is the proposed tariff adjustment that results in the proposed application of 4% on the value of the current tariff, below the estimated inflation for the year 2024, predicted by 5.09%, a percentage that will generate a reduction in public contributions from GESP (government of the state of São Paulo) to public companies”, stated the department’s executive secretary, Manoel Marcos Botelho.

The adjustment will be 13.6%. Currently, the price of a bus ticket in Brazil’s largest city is R$4.40. The last adjustment had been made in January 2020, still under the management of Bruno Covas (PSDB)
Double dose adjustment in SP
Earlier, São Paulo city hall had already announced an increase in bus fares in 2025, after five years without an increase in ticket prices. From January 6th, people from São Paulo will pay R$5 for a bus trip in the capital of São Paulo.
The adjustment will be 13.6%. Currently, the price of a bus ticket in Brazil’s largest city is R$4.40.
The new value was presented by SPTrans, the company responsible for administering municipal public transport, during the meeting of the Municipal Traffic and Transport Council (CMTT).
The value of the new bus fare will be forwarded to the São Paulo City Council. All current free services will be maintained, as will the integration of up to four buses within a three-hour period.
