Bolsonaro is irritated by Moraes’ passport veto: “I’m not going to a party”
Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) showed irritation this Thursday, 16th, at having had his request to return his passport denied by the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes. “I’m not going to a christening party, for anyone’s daughter or granddaughter. It is an inauguration event for the largest democracy in the world”, he said.
Bolsonaro asked the minister for the document back to travel to the United States and attend the inauguration of president-elect, Donald Trump, on the 20th, in Washington.
In an interview with the Magazine West This Thursday, the former president stated that Trump “has affection” for him and that the American “would like to shake hands” with him, or he would not have invited him.

Indicted by the Federal Police (PF) for attempted coup d’état, Bolsonaro also said that his lawyers will appeal the decision, but he knows that the chances of victory are small.
“I felt like a child receiving a gift”, said the former head of the federal Executive to narrate the moment he was invited to the ceremony. The communication was sent to the email of federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), on the 8th, by the team chosen by the republican to organize the event.
The fact that the invitation was made via an unknown email address and without the event’s schedule led Moraes to request more information from Bolsonaro’s legal team.
The former president’s defense had asked for the release of his passport, claiming that Bolsonaro was “honored to receive, directly from the Presidential Inaugural Committee, a formal invitation” to participate in the inauguration ceremonies in the USA.
This Thursday, four days before the ceremony, minister Alexandre de Moraes denied the return of the passport, seized since February 2024, when the former president was the target of Operation Tempus Veritatis, launched by the Federal Police to investigate an attempted coup of State in 2022.
The minister’s decision follows the opinion of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), which saw no “public interest” that would justify easing the restriction imposed on the former head of the Executive.
Bolsonaro stated that his wife, Michelle Bolsonaro, will represent him and will receive “very special treatment” due to the “consideration” and “friendship built over two years” between him and the elected North American president.
