Who are Trump’s ‘freedom fighters’ who will decide Meta’s life?
At the FTC, starting in April, he will work on a legal process that tries to review Meta’s acquisition of WhatsApp and Instagram. This could put the company in the position of facing an overhaul, something similar to what Google faces today.
Immunity to moderate content
Another government body that can define the future of Meta is the FCC (Federal Communications Commission, in Portuguese). The body works like Anatel, but, in the USA, it does not only deal with telecommunications, but also with internet content providers. That is, from platforms like Instagram and Facebook.
There, the new boss will be Brendan Carr.
He says he intends to dismantle the censorship cartel, made up, in his view, of Big Techs. Under Carr’s hands is Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which serves as a shield for companies on the internet. The legislation exempts platforms from liability for what is published by third parties or what they moderate.
Brendan Carr is very critical of this section and will probably make things a little more difficult for Big Techs
