Israel advanced troops in Lebanon; Hezbollah talks about breach of ceasefire
“As the ceasefire agreement has not yet been fully applied by the Lebanese state, the gradual withdrawal process will remain in full coordination with the United States,” the office said.
Israel asks for another 30 days of time
The fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into force on November 27 after more than a year of hostilities, including two months of total war when Israeli troops crossed the border. The large offensive launched by Israel severely weakened Hezbollah and forced the travel of 1.2 million Lebanese.
The agreement, intermediated by the US and France, was formulated to enable an extension of the withdrawal beyond the initially planned 60 days.
According to reports in the press, the Israelis asked the US to postpone 30 days after the end of the original deadline on Sunday. The US is part of the group of countries in charge of monitoring compliance with ceasefire.
Hezbollah talks about violation of the agreement
The ceasefire agreement stipulates that Hezbollah forces must be retired to an area south of the Litani River, about 30 kilometers north of the Israeli-Libanese border.
