European Union and USA follow opposite directions with artificial intelligence
The presidential inauguration ceremony was attended by billionaires from the sector, including OpenAi CEOs, Sam Altman; From the goal, Mark Zuckerberg, and of course, Tesla and Spacex, Elon Musk, who were sitting prominently in the second row, directly behind Trump’s family.
On the same day, Trump terminated an executive order issued by his predecessor, Joe Biden, dismantling various IA protections and initiatives implemented during the Democrat’s government.
In the following days, Trump invited Altman, as well as the CEOs of softbank and Oracle technology companies, to the White House to announce what he described as “by far the largest AI infrastructure project in history.” Over the next four years, the megaproject, nicknamed Stargate, will invest up to $ 2,935 trillion AI infrastructure, including data centers.
“All this is happening here in the United States,” Trump told reporters.
He also signed an executive order for the creation of an “AI Action Plan” in 180 days. The strategy aims to “support and increase US dominion in AI”.
Although the details of this policy still remain obscure, it is widely expected that it gives the big tech huge freedom to develop new AI technologies. This policy should also reduce the requirements for companies to mitigate risks as they develop everyday use applications.
