“This is wrong,” he said. “What we have to do is to seek that each power can live within its attributions, respecting each other, without advancing the line of autonomy and authority of each.”

Amnesty

Asked about the possibility of granting amnesty to the accused of participating in the January 8 coup acts, Alcolumbre said there must be “mediation and modulation” in the penalties to be applied by the court.

“It cannot be an amnesty for everyone equally. And it cannot, in court decisions, be a punishment for everyone in the same gravity, ”said the senator.

Alcolumbre acknowledged that there was a “problem” with the acts of vandalism and the attempted coup d’état and that “someone thought and idealized it.” The senator argued, however, that all must be considered innocent until the last instance.

Amendments

In the interview, the Senate president criticized what he considers to be a process of “criminalization” of parliamentary amendments, which he considers important to alleviate inequalities in the country.
