STJ publishes note in defense of Moraes after criticism of the Trump administration
The president of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), Herman Benjamin, and three other ministers signed a statement in defense of Alexandre de Moraes after the United States government criticizes decisions of the Supreme Court (STF).
“No Brazilian judge judges a litigation alone, however small, without his decision to fall at least one appeal to a collegiate body in the same court or in a higher court. This is the biggest guarantee that Brazilian and foreign citizens and companies have that the law, without arbitrariness or privilege, will be valid for everyone, ”says the note.

In addition to Benjamin, the grade sign the ministers Luis Felipe Salomão, Vice-President of the STJ and Federal Justice Corregedor, Mauro Campbell Marques, National Corregidor of Justice, and Benedito Gonçalves, director of the National School of Judiciary (Pena).
“Brazil values and celebrates the independence, integrity and impartiality of its judges, as well as the inviolability of due process of law, as prescribed by the constitution and laws,” continues the text.
The note also extols the similarities between Brazil and the US and the exchanges of experiences and knowledge between magistrates from both countries and points out that those who bet on conflict between the judicial institutions provides a “disservice to the history” of both.
“In the essence of our affinities, there is admiration and reciprocal respect between our peoples, which offers us reliable basis so that competent national instances can resolve eventual, always natural differences in everyday relationship. Thus, it gives a disservice to our common history and the promising future of our cooperation who bets on conflict between our institutions, especially the judicials, ”the ministers say.
Last week, Moraes ordered the Rumble platform block in Brazil on the grounds that the company failed to comply with court orders. In response, the United States State Department made a publication in X criticizing the decision.
“Respect for sovereignty is a two -way road with all US partners, including Brazil. Blocking access to information and imposing fines on US -based companies for refusing to censor individuals who live there is incompatible with democratic values, including freedom of expression, ”said the US government agency.
