More than a thousand die in conflict in Syria between rebels and allies of Assad

Conflicts broke out after several days of tension in the Latakia region, a stronghold of the Alauita Muslim minority, where the Assad clan comes.

Roads were closed. Source from the Ministry of Defense, according to the Sana Official Press Agency, indicated that “roads leading to the coastal region were closed to control the situation, prevent abuse and gradually restore stability in the region.”
The country’s interim president, Ahmad al-Sharaah, appealed last night (7) to the insurgents of Alauitas. “Deliver the weapons before it’s too late. (…) We will continue to work for a monopoly of weapons in the hands of the state,” he added in a speech.
