PT is combined with the base of Tarcisio, and André do Prado is reelected president of Alesp

The President of the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp), André do Prado (PL), was reelected for office on Saturday, 15, in voting at Palace 9 July, headquarters of the state Legislature.

Prado was reelected with the support of the PT and the base of Governor Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans), including scholarships, consolidating his influence on Alesp and paving the way for electoral claims in 2026. Pupilo de Valdemar Costa Neto, national president of the PL, he seeks to make possible as Tarcisio vice in a possible reelection of the governor. If Tarcisio disputes the Presidency of the Republic, Prado wants to be the PL candidate for the São Paulo government.

This is the first time that a state legislature has been reappointed in the same legislature, which was prohibited until a change in the Constitution of São Paulo. The proposal of amendment to the Constitution (PEC) was proposed by Deputy Carlos Cezar (PL) and approved at the end of last year.

The modification occurred in the second paragraph of article 11 of the Constitution of the State of São Paulo to allow reelection. However, a third consecutive term is vetoed.

Prado faced candidate Paula from the feminist bench (PSOL), the only opposition name for the dispute of the main chair of the house.

The preparatory session that reelected Prado had a relaxed atmosphere, with the deputies already aware of the result even before the vote. Early in the session, the leader of the PSOL and Rede Federation, Guilherme Cortez (PSOL), argued that Prado’s only opponent, Paula from the feminist bench, had the right to speak. The claim, without support in the Rules of Procedure, was supported by Prado, who cited the month of women by justifying the gesture.

The request was accepted by the other leaders, and Paula began her speech by remembering that there was never a woman at the head of the São Paulo legislature in her 190 years of existence. She recalled that the current legislature elected 25 women, a record number. “My wish is that one day the Legislative Assembly has a woman president,” she said, who also called for parity in the positions of the Board of Directors.

The PSOL parliamentarian took advantage of his speech to criticize the approval of Tarcísio de Freitas government projects at the House, citing the privatization of Sabesp, the PEC that flexes education spent in São Paulo and the project that creates civic-military schools in the state. “Alesp cannot be a way of chancellating the end -right advancement project in the state of São Paulo. And that’s why today PSOL puts its own candidacy, ”she said. “We really want this house to play an independent role,” he added.

At another time, the petista deputy Eduardo Suplicy starred in a hilarious moment. “I distracted myself a little and came without jacket and tie, but my leader Paulo Fiorilo lent me a jacket and tie, so here I am.”

“Really, we are aligned. I have to be aligned, although not alienated, ”he said. “There is harmony, but also great independence. We moved the budget (state) and never vote for so many parliamentarians projects in this house as now. ”

Prado first applied in 2004, when he was elected mayor of Guararema, from São Paulo with about 30,000 inhabitants, according to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), 2022. Then he was elected state deputy four times in a row (2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022).
