Haddad says farm maintains GDP growth projection, even after BC revised

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said on Thursday that the government’s economic area does not see reason for a revision of the growth estimate of 2.3% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) this year, after the Central Bank revised its projections to the indicator.

“We continue with the forecast of growth of the Brazilian economy in the form of the budget law,” Haddad said in an interview with journalists on the farm.

“We continue to believe in growth above 2%. But each has a methodology. The two organs are very serious and are all the freedom to make prognosis. But growth prognosis are always prognosis, approximations.”

The minister pointed out, however, that the predictions of the portfolio have been close to reality.

Earlier this Thursday, the BC worsened its projection of economic growth in Brazil by 2025 to 1.9%, against a level of 2.1% estimated in December. The market, according to the latest Focus survey, estimates that the economy will grow 1.98% by 2025.

Asked about criticism of government members to BC President Gabriel Galipolo, Haddad also said that he sees no dissonance between his comments and those of the municipality’s head.

Earlier on Thursday, Galipolo said he has more protagonism in the decisions of the Monetary Policy Committee since 2024, noting that the latest decisions of the collegiate have been unanimous.

“We are with the same goal of meeting the new goals regime.”

Already on the vice-president’s speech, Geraldo Alckmin, in which he argued that the monetary authority analyze the withdrawal of food and energy prices from inflation calculation, Haddad said it is a type of analysis that the BC already does in its reports.

“Those who calculate inflation is IBGE, which is a consecrated methodology. And in fact, the Central Bank evaluates inflation nuclei and they often disregard certain volatility of certain prices. Nuclei analysis already takes seasonal effects and certain behavior by virtue of external shocks, such as weather conditions,” he said.
