Government indicates Rondeau, Tolmasquim and Hubner to Eletrobras Council, Fontes say

The Union indicated Silas Rondeau, Maurício Tolmasquim and Nelson Hubner to the Eletrobras Board of Directors (ELET3) Reuters two sources with knowledge of the subject, confirming information published earlier by Infra.

For the vacancy in the company’s fiscal council, the government appointed Guido Mantega, according to one of the sources.

The names will be submitted, along with those appointed by other shareholders of the company, to approve the next Ordinary Assembly of Eletrobras, scheduled for late April.

Sought, Eletrobras did not immediately comment on the matter.

Known names from the electricity sector, Rondeau and Hubner were ministers of Minas and Energy in past management of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Tolmasquim also held positions in the Folder and the Energy Research Company (EPE), and today is Petrobras’ Executive Executive Director of Energy and Sustainability.

Already Guido Mantega, former Minister of Finance of Lula and the Government Dilma Rousseff, was quoted by the government last year to occupy other boards of directors, such as Vale, but the nomination did not go.

The election of board in April marks the first major reformulation of the Eletrobras collegiate since privatization, completed in 2022 and whose “turn” process is coming to an end, according to recent statements by the CEO, Ivan Monteiro.

The electric company announced the day before the signing of the agreement with the Federal Government to end the dispute in the Supreme Court (STF) on the limit of voting power in the company, a subject that increased the risk associated with the company and was weighing on stock actions.

With the negotiation, the government has an representation in Eletrobras advice, while the company no longer has several obligations linked to the nuclear generation business, which it continued as a minority partner via Eletronuclear.
