Moraes grants house arrest to 8/1 convict with cancer
Supreme Federal Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes granted this Saturday (29) house arrest to one convicted of the coup act of January 8, 2023 with cancer who had recently suffered a heart attack. Jaime Junkes will serve the 14 -year sentence at home and wear an electronic anklet.
“In addition to its cancer diagnosis, repeatedly proven in the file, (the convict) would have recently suffered acute infarction in myocardium, which constitutes an important supervening situation to authorize the exceptional granting of humanitarian house arrest,” Moraes wrote in his decision.

In addition to the anklet, Junkes will not be able to use social networks, communicate with the others involved in the acts of January 8, nor give interviews to press vehicles without the Supreme Court authorization.
The convict is also required to inform the court any displacement for health problems 48 hours in advance, except in emergency cases, where the departure may be reported later.
Junkes will not be able to receive home visits except brothers, children, grandchildren and lawyers. Other visits will need to be authorized by the Supreme Court.

Reconsideration
By allowing house arrest, the minister reconsidered a decision of the 21st. At the time, Moraes did not allow Junkes to go home, arguing that the convict could periodically leave the prison to do health treatments.
Arrested in the act within the Planalto Palace on January 8, 2023, Junkes was denounced by the Attorney General’s Office as a “material executor” of attacks on the headquarters of the three powers. He was sentenced to 12 years and six months of closed sentence, another year and six months in semi -open or open regime.
