City Hall removes support for the walk by the victims of state violence

The announcement, made three days before the event, surprised the organizers, who had the support of the secretariat to ensure the safety and comfort of the public. Support is considered as critical, as many people who are part of the walk are composed of the elderly and people who lived the dictatorial period.

The event is maintained and the Walk of Silence will take place from 15h in front of the former Detachment of Information Operations of the Internal Defense Operations Center, DOI-CODI, a recognized place of torture during the military regime.

The march will continue to the monument in honor of the dead and missing politicians in Ibirapuera Park, where it is expected to end at 20h.

This year, the organizers’ hope was that the march gain an even greater symbolic contour for the struggle of memory, truth and justice, especially in the face of recent events involving reports of coup attempt and an offensive for an amnesty.
