Exporters, techs and air are sectors most affected by the tariff
Agribusiness did not escape either. The sugarcane tree (Raiz4) fell 1.08%. Refrigerators, such as JBS (JBSS3), which fell 1.23%, also felt negative reflexes. “Brazilian ethanol has become the target of American tariffs, in response to those applied by Brazil on US ethanol and the taxation on various imported agricultural products can affect the Brazilian exports of these items,” says Marcos Gimenez, president of Bravo, technological solutions to the fiscal and accounting areas.
And abroad?
In the United States, the largest falls accumulated in the week have been with technology companies. Dell Technologies (Dell) dropped from 16.32% from March 31 to April 3, on the New York Stock Exchange. Another one that suffered a lot was HP (HPQ), with low accumulated in the period of 14.77%. The data is from Economatica. “Fear of increasing production costs, especially with components from Asia, impact the global chain of technology, one of the most sensitive to protectionist policies,” says Daniela.
Other very impacted sectors were those of aircraft and airline manufacturers. The manufacturer Boeing (BA) fell 12.97% a week. United Airlines (UAL), Southwest (LUV) and Delta Air Lines (DAL) airlines, on the other hand, had a fall of 14.24%, 14.08% and 11.77% respectively. The increase of imported pieces and the possibility of falling global demand for travel is what makes investors sell these actions.
Consumer products were also caught. The Bestbuy (BBI) electronics chain fell 14.12%, Nike (NKE) accumulated low of 12.18%, and the cosmetics brand Estée Lauder (EL) devalued 11.05%. “The increase in production costs and possible declines in consumption, both domestic and international affect these brands,” says Daniela.
In Europe, among the hardest-hit sectors last Thursday, after Trump’s announcement was luxury retail, with the Stoxx Luxury 10 rate falling 5.2% on its worst trading session in almost four years. The actions of Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd maritime transport giants fell over 9% on the same day. Medicine companies also felt the thud. Novo Nordisk, the Danish Drug Manufacturer of Ozempic Weight Loss Drug, fell by 2.6%. The US is the company’s largest market, where sales exceed $ 30.3 billion a year. “In the US and Europe, these sectors fall due to global exposure and because they depend on supply chains affected “, explains Gusmão.
