Amid plea negotiations, lawyer leaves defense of former BRB president
The defense of the former president of the Banco Regional de Brasília (BRB), Paulo Henrique Costa, suffered a loss amid negotiations over his plea bargain. Lawyer Eugênio Aragão, who is a retired Deputy Attorney General of the Republic, announced this Tuesday, 19th, his departure from the case.
Aragão left the defense due to procedural differences with the other lawyer working on the case, Davi Tangerino.
The departure occurs at a time when the annexes to Paulo Henrique Costa’s plea bargain are being prepared. He was transferred to a cell in the Papudinha unit, within the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, to work on this material.
As a member of the Federal Public Ministry, Aragão had started conversations with the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) about a possible collaboration agreement with Paulo Henrique. The confidentiality agreement that formally marks the beginning of the collaboration process has not yet been signed.
With his departure, the matter must be under the care of Davi Tangerino.
Paulo Henrique Costa was arrested on April 16 on suspicion of having negotiated bribes in real estate to favor the interests of Banco Master and banker Daniel Vorcaro within BRB.
In a note announcing his departure, Aragão stated that “any award-winning collaboration would only be considered in the presence of consistent and unequivocal evidence, always with respect to legality, institutions and the reputation of the people involved”. “With almost 30 years of experience in the Federal Public Ministry and an extensive career in senior roles at the institution, Eugênio Aragão only participates in legal initiatives guided by absolute seriousness, professional trust and responsibility”, says the note.
