Bolivian government says Morales shot anti-drug trafficking police
The Bolivian government on Monday denied accusations that it led a targeted attack against former president Evo Morales, whose car was shot at on Sunday, stating that the former leader’s convoy fired at the anti-drug trafficking police, who were carrying out a patrol.
Morales claims the government tried to assassinate him when bullets hit his car in the early hours of Sunday, marking a new chapter of tensions in the Andean nation between the former president and his former ally, President Luis Arce.
Bolivian Interior Minister Eduardo del Castillo said at a news conference that the FELCN anti-drug trafficking unit was carrying out a standard road patrol when Morales’ convoy shot and ran over a police officer.
