Brazil will explore all possibilities of bringing Chinese companies, says Haddad

The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddadstated that the federal government will act to bring Chinese companies to Brazil. The statement was made in an interview with the broadcaster CNBCrecorded on Friday, the 15th, and shown on Sunday, the 17th. “China is Brazil’s largest trading partner. President Xi (Jinping) is coming to Brazil this week exactly to make a strategic agreement with Brazil,” he said.
Haddad continued: “They have the Silk Road, they have a vision of global development, they want to be partners with Brazil, and Brazil will explore all the possibilities of bringing Chinese companies here, creating jobs here.”
The minister then stated that there are several Chinese construction companies that participate in tenders under the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) and that automakers from the country are also coming to Brazil.
Furthermore, he cited the possibility of Chinese companies producing solar panels here. “There is a range of possibilities with China, which has technology in strategic areas that interest us”, he declared.
Afterwards, Haddad stated that Brazil should not choose just one of the economic blocs, referring to China, the European Union and the United States.
“Now, look, why would Brazil, the size it is, have to join one of these three economic blocs?”, he said. “It doesn’t make sense, because our complementarities are different in the three cases. We export manufacturing to the United States and do not export to China.”
Haddad added: “Brazil does not need and should not be a satellite of a larger economy.”
