Canada loses jobs for the first time in 3 years in the midst of trade war with the USA

“The next few weeks and months will not be easy, but we won’t abandon them. We’ll fight these tariffs,” Carry said during a Montreal rally before national elections.
The employment rate fell in March due to full -time job loss, a sector that recorded “a strong high trend in the second half of 2024,” Statistics Canada said in a statement.
This decline affected the private sector, especially in the sectors of wholesale and retail, information, culture and entertainment.
Canada was spared most of Trump’s rates announced on Wednesday because Washington secured exemption for goods that are part of the T-MEC trade agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada.
However, on Thursday, Ottawa announced 25% tariffs on imports from some US vehicles after Washington imposed supervised steel and aluminum, which also affected the Canadian market.
