Committee in the Chamber approves motion to repudiate Janja for insulting Elon Musk
The Chamber’s Foreign Relations and National Defense Committee approved this Wednesday, 27th, by 14 votes to 5, a motion of repudiation against First Lady Rosângela Lula da Silva, known as Janja. The reason is her swearing at businessman Elon Musk when he participated in activities related to the G-20.
The episode occurred on November 16, during a lecture on combating disinformation at Cria G-20, held in Rio de Janeiro. During his speech, it was possible to hear a ship’s horn in the background, disturbing his speech. In response, Janja commented: “Hello, I think it’s Elon Musk… I’m not afraid of you, even, fuck you, Elon Musk”.
The insult in English was made while Janja defended the regulation of digital platforms. Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), is against the measure. In his platform, he countered by saying that the current government will “lose the next election”.

The request for repudiation, of a symbolic nature and without practical consequences, was presented by deputies Zucco (PL-RS) and General Girão (PL-RN) and signed by Luiz Philippe de Orleans e Bragança (PL-SP). For parliamentarians, the stance adopted by the first lady is “incompatible with the decorum required at official events” and “demonstrates a lack of responsibility and sensitivity in relation to the role she plays as a symbolic representative of the nation, in an event of such visibility”.
Although the majority of votes in favor were from opposition parliamentarians, members of parties with members in the government, such as União Brasil, PP and Republicans, also supported the motion.
On the same day, Lula, without mentioning Janja’s insult, said that there was no need to “offend anyone”. The president defended the fight against hunger at a festival organized by Janja at the G-20. “I wanted to tell you that this is a campaign in which we don’t have to offend anyone, we don’t have to insult anyone. We just need to outrage society,” he said.
Carrefour
In the same session, the commission unanimously approved another repudiation motion, this time against what they called the “French boycott” of Brazilian meat. The president of the collegiate, deputy Lucas Redecker (PSDB-RS), presented the request, which was signed by four other parliamentarians, including Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) who had already presented a request with similar content.
The reason was the statement by Carrefour’s global CEO, Alexandre Bompard, announcing that the chain would no longer sell meat from Mercosur. The speech generated reactions from Brazilian businesspeople and authorities, and meatpackers in the country decided to retaliate by suspending the supply of meat to Carrefour in Brazil. Amid the controversy, Bompard released a letter of retraction on Tuesday, the 26th, praising the quality of Brazilian meat and confirming that the group will continue to purchase products from national slaughterhouses in Brazil.
