Eduardo Bolsonaro: Moraes wants to crush opposition and has a chance of losing his visa in the US

The decision by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) minister, Alexandre de Moraes, not to release former president Jair Bolsonaro to attend the inauguration of president-elect Donald Trump, in the United States, is still generating controversy.

On Friday (17), federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro told the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo that Moraes aims to “crush” the opposition to President Lula (PT) and states that the minister has a “real chance” of having his North American visa revoked.

“I think it is interference in the political opposition to Lula. We are talking about the main right-wing opposition, a person who still takes to the streets and attracts crowds. So, this interference and collusion between Lula and the Judiciary is clear. This is very bad for democracy”, Eduardo told the newspaper, ensuring that the father would not flee the country if he had authorization to travel.

When asked if there is an intention to ask the North American government to take some action regarding Moraes’ visa, Eduardo states that “there are laws stating that authorities who abuse their power, authorities who do not respect, including American laws, can lose your passport.”

“In my assessment, there is a real risk that Alexandre de Moraes will lose his visa to enter the United States, especially if this brutally aggressive conduct appears, not only against Brazilians, but also against American authorities,” he told Sheet.

Eduardo is already in the United States and will be accompanied by his wife and former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro at the inauguration.

Invited by Trump to the inauguration, which takes place next Monday (20), in Washington, Bolsonaro had his request to release his passport denied by Moraes on Thursday (16). The following day, the lawyers appealed to the Court, but the magistrate followed the recommendation of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and maintained the denial of the former president’s request.

Bolsonaro, whose passport was seized by the Supreme Court in February last year, was indicted in December for participating in the attempted coup d’état. He also faces other proceedings in court.
