Finding a leader to replace Lula ‘is not simple’, says PT president
The national president of the PT, Edinho Silva, stated that building a leadership capable of replacing the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), “is not simple” in the current political scenario. The statement was made in an interview with Band’s Canal Livre program.
In the interview, Edinho defended Lula’s re-election for a fourth term in the 2026 presidential elections. “We need to re-elect President Lula so that we can be sure of a Brazil that is led safely given the political and economic stability that we are experiencing. The risk is that Brazil will go backwards, experiencing a situation of authoritarianism and dismantling.”
Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro appear tied in the eventual 2nd round, points out Datafolha
In a possible second round dispute, Flávio would have 46% of voting intentions, compared to 45% for Lula
According to Edinho, Lula today has significant political capital, which makes it difficult to define an immediate successor within the democratic field.
The leader highlighted that the complexity of the political and economic scenario increases the challenge of training new leaders with the capacity to maintain the same articulation and support.
“It is clear that leadership to replace President Lula is not simple, because he is today the greatest political leader in the world. It is not simple to replace President Lula”, stated Edinho Silva.
The PT president stated that new leaders tend to emerge over time, as long as there is a connection with the demands of society.
For him, the process of political renewal occurs gradually and depends on the consolidation of projects and agendas in the country.
