Five people die after plane hits tree and crashes in USA
A plane with five people on board crashed and caught fire after hitting a tree while attempting to land at an airport in North Carolina (USA).
What happened
The collision occurred during a second landing attempt at the airport. The single-engine Cirrus SR22 aircraft was trying to reach the runway, which is close to the Wright Brothers National Memorial, for the second time, when it collided with a tree. The aircraft crashed, caught fire and the five occupants, including four adults and a child, died. The information comes from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The accident occurred during a multi-leg flight. The plane had taken off this Saturday (28) from Dare County Regional Airport, less than 10 miles (16.09 kilometers) from the crash site, before attempting to land at First Flight Airport around 6 p.m. The airport does not have a control tower, so there is no monitoring of landings and takeoffs.
