Government will do what is necessary to guarantee fiscal balance, says Rui Costa

The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, said this Monday (20) that the federal government will do whatever is necessary to guarantee the balance of public accounts, highlighting that this is a commitment from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
“The fiscal commitment is not from Minister A, from Minister B. The fiscal commitment is from the President of the Republic, from the government”, he stated in an interview with journalists at Granja do Torto after a ministerial meeting with the president.
According to Costa, new fiscal measures, as has been speculated, were not discussed at the ministerial meeting, which lasted seven hours, and there would be no new studies on this either, but he reaffirmed that, if necessary, other measures will come.

Lula set a delivery target for each minister in 2025, says Rui Costa
“I want to reaffirm, everything that needs to be done to achieve fiscal balance will be done. At any time, any month that proves necessary”, he said.
The minister also defended that he expects to see the dollar – which closed lower this Monday due to the inauguration of US President Donald Trump and Central Bank auctions – fall even further in the coming months and return to a level closer to what he considers the reality of the Brazilian economy.
Costa was also asked whether the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, had been weakened by the confusion caused by Pix’s fake tax news, and he denied it.
“Minister Haddad could not have been weakened because there was no real measure. What was created was false news to terrorize the population”, stated the minister. “Under no circumstances was it thought of taxing or taxing pix.”
Ministerial reform
Asked about the possibility of a ministerial reform taking place by the end of the month, as he had previously stated, Costa said that the president continues to “reflect” on changes to the team, but there is no deadline for a decision.
Two weeks ago, the minister himself had stated that the reform should be published by the 21st of this month, right after the ministerial meeting. However, there are no signs that Lula is ready for changes.
According to a source, the changes should only be made after the elections for the House and Senate tables, in early February, to reflect the composition of the government base in Congress. Furthermore, there are specific problems of internal reorganization of the government that are being analyzed by the president.
