Hezbollah will pay $77 million and rent to war-affected families
Hezbollah has paid more than $50 million in cash to families affected by the war against Israel, the group’s leader, Naim Qassem, said on Thursday, as the Iran-backed faction seeks to strengthen its support base after a conflict devastating with Israel.
In a recorded speech, Qassem said the payments, which amount to between $300 and $400 per person, will total more than $77 million when made to all 233,500 families who signed up. He thanked Iran for helping the group finance the aid.
Hezbollah will also provide a unit payment of $8,000 to those whose main home was destroyed in the war, and $6,000 for a year’s rent to those living in Beirut or its suburbs. $4,000 will also be allocated to those living outside the capital until they can return home, he said. He said the program will be primarily financed by Iran.
