Humanitarian aid trucks were ‘intercepted’ by population hungry in Gaza, says UN

Following Israel’s announcement on Sunday that it would allow limited help to enter the territory after two and a half months of blocking, the UN showed concern for the risk of withdrawals.
Israel allowed the entry of about 200 UN trucks in the Gaza Strip through the Kem Shalom border passage. Vehicles should be discharged immediately and then recharged to others before reaching the UN warehouses.
The United Nations reported the day before, approximately 90 trucks with food for babies, flour and medicines were able to leave Karem Shalom on Wednesday for distribution in Gaza.
The world food program has announced that it was able to supply several bakeries with flour, which allowed “fresh bread for the first time in more than two months”.
Since 15h00 GMT (12 noon in Brasilia) on Thursday, no other train left Karem Shalom, said Dujaric.
“Yesterday’s shipment has been limited in quantity and is far from enough to cover the scale (from needs) of the 2.1 million inhabitants of Gaza,” he said, adding that the entry of other products such as fresh foods, toiletries and fuel is not yet allowed.
