If Congress approves amnesty, ‘no one has to get in’, says Bolsonaro in Brasilia

If Congress approves amnesty, 'no one has to get in', says Bolsonaro in Brasilia

In an act in the federal capital on Wednesday, 7, former President Jair Bolsonaro, breaking medical recommendation, climbed the sound car and defended the amnesty of the accused of involvement on January 8. Bolsonaro stated that if the project that delivers from punishment those convicted by extremist acts is approved in Congress, there is no contestation of the other powers.

“Amnesty is a political and private act of the Brazilian Parliament. If Parliament has voted, no one has to get into anything, it has to fulfill the will of Parliament, which represents the will of the majority of the Brazilian people,” he said.

The statement comes as a message to the Federal Supreme Court, in which ministers have commented against the amnesty of the convicts.

In the brief speech on a sound car, Bolsonaro celebrated the protesters’ adhesion on a Wednesday in Brasilia. “Who expected such a audience in Brasilia, in the middle of a week? No one expected. Few people expected that. The presence of you here is the certainty that we are on the right track.”

This is the first scholarship demonstration in Brasilia since it culminated in the depredation of the buildings of the three powers, on January 8, 2023. The motto of the act is precisely the forgiveness to the convicts in the Supreme Court (STF) for vandalism in Brasilia.

Shortly after Bolsonaro’s speech, Pastor Silas Malafaia announced that the Chamber’s Constitution and Justice Commission had approved a bill that sustained the criminal action opened by the Federal Supreme Court against Deputy Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ). The project would also benefit Bolsonaro, also a defendant in the criminal action. The text will still be subjected to the plenary of the Chamber.

During the walk of the TV tower protesters to the track in front of the congress, politicians took turns in speeches. First lady Michelle Bolsonaro took the opportunity to name two STF ministers: Gilmar Mendes and Luiz Fux.

De Gilmar, Michelle cited a vote in which he released the former First Lady of Rio de Janeiro from arrest Adriana Anselmo, arrested for corruption. Michelle cited the example to argue that the pocketist Debora dos Santos, sentenced to 14 years of detention, also benefits and does not risk returning to jail. She is fulfilled house arrest. Deborah participated in the acts of January 8 and used a lipstick for Pixar statue in front of the STF.

“Gilmar Mendes argued that the arrest of pregnant women or children under their care is absolutely worrying. (…) Well, my beloved, Deborah took two years in prison, is home, can return to jail, have two young children. Why does the balance only weigh to one side?” Said Michelle. About Fux, Bolsonaro’s wife thanked the fact that the STF minister defends the size of the feathers.
