Trump-Zelenski conversation: Trump reported Zelenski about the conversation with Putin. The two leaders discussed possibilities to achieve peace and agreed to work together.
Change in US policy: US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, said Ukraine’s return to borders prior to 2014 is “unrealistic,” as well as Ukraine’s adhesion to NATO. Hegseth also indicated that the US will not send troops to Ukraine and that Europe must take responsibility for its own defense.
Position of Europe: European leaders, such as those in France, Germany and Spain, insist that the future of Ukraine cannot be decided without the participation of Ukraine and Europe itself. They claim that European security cannot be decided without Europe.
Detainee release: The White House announced the release of two Belarusians and an American citizen who were detained in Belarus. One of the released Belarusians is a journalist at Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
War in Gaza: The situation in Gaza gets worse, with Israel threatening to resume “intense fighting” if Hamas no longer releases Israeli hostages until Saturday. Arab countries oppose Trump’s plan to travel Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan. A survey shows that 64% of Americans are against Trump’s plan to “take over” Gaza.
Ukraine Economic Agreement: Zelenski proposed an agreement for the US to invest in minerals in Ukraine, which, according to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, could serve as a “safety shield” for Ukraine.
