In the sights of Lula's spending cuts, the Navy publishes video questioning 'privileges'

The Navy released a video questioning whether there are “privileges” in the body, after being targeted by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) spending cut package.

The government presented the package last week. One of the proposals is to establish a minimum age for special retirement from the Armed Forces, in addition to ending other rules classified by the economic team as “privileges”.

In the advertising piece, military personnel appear in training, working in floods, studying, diving and acting out a situation in which a ship sinks, while other people party, enjoy the beach, travel and celebrate birthdays with their families.

The video ends with a soldier saying: “Privileges? Come to the Navy!”

The play was produced in reference to Sailor’s Day, which is celebrated on December 13th. When contacted, the agency did not respond.

The Navy leadership had previously released a statement questioning the minimum age for the paid reserve proposed by the government, according to the Estadão revealed. The package provides for a minimum age of 55 years. Currently, the criteria is only based on length of service, 35 years.
