Innocent or guilty? Politicians comment trial that made Bolsonaro defendant

The judgment of the 1st class of the Supreme Federal Court that made defendant the former president Jair Bolsonaro He divided opinions into the political class in Brasilia. As soon as the Supreme Court session, Bolsonaro’s allies and opponents commented on the decision.

After the former president’s press conference, Senator Izalci Lucas (PL-DF) mourned the result of the trial. “Unfortunately, this decision was already expected, with this formation of the 1st class. I hope that now the ministers will evaluate the content, not the cover. Vandals must be penalized and not the president Bolsonaro,” said the senator.

In a social network, the Senate opposition leader, Senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN), said that the receipt of the complaint did not surprise. “Once again due process was not respected. As alerted by several defense lawyers, they did not have access to the full evidence. In addition, a pre -trial detention was distorted to extract Colonel Cid’s report, rejected by the prosecutor and the basis of the complaint. There is no cause for their receipt,” he wrote.

“We have today in Brazil the most important criminal proceedings in its history, since, even contaminated since its beginning for illegalities, abuse of authority and probative fishing, there is no evidence that indicates that Jair Bolsonaro has committed any of the crimes imputed to him,” Marino added.

Already the leader of the opposition in the House, Colonel Zucco (PL-RS), posted the following text: “A difficult news to the Brazilian right! Our President Jair Bolsonaro is now a defendant in the STF. The accusation: an alleged attempt to coup. This situation marks a delicate moment for his legacy and for millions of Brazilians who support him.”

Zucco followed the trial on Monday (25) and in an interview with journalists said that the STF ministers need to prove that Bolsonaro is guilty and not he who is innocent. According to Zucco, the opposition will make obstruction in the House as a clear action of repudiation of the trial.

Opponents praise

On the way out of the STF, Deputy Rogério Correia (PT-MG), who accompanied the trial, said that Bolsonaro and this (also reported) core have always worked to install an authoritarian regime in Brazil. “We must have vigilance. It was very important today and we need to hold on the National Congress any action that can destabilize the judgment that needs to be done in the name of democracy,” he said.

The deputy awaits the conviction and says he believes there are evidence for it. “I hope he will be condemned. The evidence that already exists are enough, and probably, but they will appear more. Bolsonaro has to make his defense and then serve the penalty for the crime he committed, which was the attempt to blow,” he added.

The chief minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffman, spoke on social networks and highlighted the legality of the decision. She wrote: “It is very significant that this decision was taken in light of the facts presented in the complaint of the PGR, in the course of the proper leal process, with a broad guarantee of the right of defense of the accused. All elapsed in the democratic rule of law that the defendants tried to abolish.”

Senator Marcelo Castro (MDB-PI) also posted a demonstration in favor of the STF’s decision. “We all know that there was an attempt to coup in Brazil. The home team and the funders have to respond with the rigors of the law. The STF’s decision to make Bolsonaro defendants and his group is more than correct. Democracy is a heritage that we have gained hard,” he said.
