Lula articulates France as Haddad’s vice-president in SP, but PSB wants former minister for the Senate
President Lula expressed to his allies his preference for counting on Márcio França (PSB) as a candidate for vice-president on Fernando Haddad’s (PT) ticket for the government of São Paulo. The PSB, however, insists for now on the possibility of the former minister running for the Senate, keeping the situation undefined. Haddad has already demonstrated his annoyance with the impasse and hopes to resolve the issue in the coming days.
The information was revealed by the newspaper “O Estado de S. Paulo” and confirmed by GLOBO with figures who participate in the political articulation.

Last week, during a meeting of the national executive, the party established France’s candidacy as a priority, alongside Simone Tebet (PSB). It was a way of positioning itself for the group’s second seat in the Senate, at a time when the PSOL-Rede Federation is looking for other acronyms to expand the support network for Marina Silva (Rede). The position was taken to Lula.
Days before, the PT member had completed two agendas in the capital of São Paulo alongside Tebet and Silva, on which occasion he urged the public made up of motorcycle couriers and trade unionists to “one day, vote for both of them”. The statement was read by the environmentalist’s campaign as a “strong political gesture” in favor of the composition, while interlocutors in France mitigated the episode.
At least since the end of April, Haddad has been talking to the trio of former ministers of the Lula government about electoral directions. The PT member’s goal is to define the state ticket by the beginning of June, before the presentation of the government plan, scheduled for the following month. He understands that the ideal would be to have only two candidates, so as not to disperse the votes and guarantee the coalition.
— We have advanced on the schedule and we want to finalize this discussion by, at the latest, the first week of the month — reported former minister Marina Silva, on Friday (29). — The discussions are narrowing down. We will reach this result through dialogue within our front, considering the contribution of each party.
The debate on referral to the Senate involves both the prospects of victory and the level that each candidacy adds electorally to Haddad and Lula, considering that the vice position does not bring equivalent visibility. Furthermore, the appeal of the vacancy is reduced by the PT’s prospects of victory against the current governor, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), which would be unprecedented.
On Marina Silva’s side, allies defend more plurality in the Senate ticket and mention research results in which she appears ahead, but also with higher rejection. France’s platform has a more centrist profile and is rooted in São Paulo’s political environment, especially in the interior, however, the defeat to senator Marcos Pontes (PL) in the last election weighs against it.
