Lula: The country paid dearly for the irresponsibility of a president who did not do the work of another

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said, this Tuesday, the 18th, that Brazil “has always paid a very expensive price for the irresponsibility” of public managers who did not want to continue the works of their predecessors who were opponents.

The criticism was made during the inauguration of a bridge that connects the municipalities of Xambioá (TO) to São Geraldo do Araguaia (PA). The work began during Dilma Rousseff’s government and has only been inaugurated now.

“This country has always paid a very high price for the irresponsibility of mayors who don’t want to do the work of another mayor, of the governor who doesn’t want to do the work of the other governor and of the president who doesn’t want to do the work of the other president. While ignorance permeates the heads of leaders, the ones who pay the price are the Brazilian people, who don’t receive the benefits they needed to receive”, said the president.

Lula cited 3,000 schools and daycare centers that, according to him, Jair Bolsonaro’s government did not want to deliver. He also spoke of 87 thousand homes that were left incomplete during past administrations. Lula said that “at no time in Brazil’s history has there been as much infrastructure work as there is now.”

“In a long time, this country has not carried out infrastructure works. That’s why in 2007, in my second term, I created the PAC. I worked in 2006 preparing a project for the most important works. We made the biggest investments in infrastructure that this country has ever known”, he declared.

The president cited the main projects of this third year in office: the new Vale-Gás, exemption from energy bills for the poorest and exemption from Income Tax for workers who earn up to R$5,000. He said that, despite this, “there are a lot of people who don’t like me, and I don’t care if they do”.

“Even agricultural credit, for many people in agribusiness who don’t like Lula and the PT, is the biggest agricultural plan ever made in this country. And I don’t care if the person likes me or not. I don’t want to marry them. What matters to me is that, if he produces for the good of the country, he will get the necessary help. I wasn’t elected to govern for my friends”, he declared.
