Moraes says he expects Trump to revoke sanctions against him
“A judicial challenge is fully possible (in the United States), and so far I have not found any Brazilian or American teacher or lawyer who thinks justice would not reverse. But at that moment I wait-and it was my choice-wait for the country’s diplomatic issue, Brazil and the United States,” Moraes said.
Trump’s impasse is the most visible test so far for the 56 -year -old magistrate, whose shaved head and muscular size have symbolized the STF, which he joined eight years ago. He led some of the court’s most prominent cases, facing billionaire Elon Musk in a dispute over social networks, sending hundreds of bolsonarist protesters to prison and barring Bolsonaro from running elections when he chaired the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
According to Moraes, dealing with blocking orders of their personal finances and the impact on trade relations between Brazil and the US has little changed their routine, which includes boxing, martial arts and reading of his new favorite book: Henry Kissinger’s “Leadership”, the latest volume of the US diplomat about the art of governor in the 20th century.
The STF minister said he trusted that diplomacy will restore his image in Washington. He attributed the current wear to a Bolsonaro allies campaign, including his son Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), a deputy who is under investigation for moving to the US with the aim of seeking Trump’s interference in his father’s case.
“The time this information is properly past-and this has been done now, and the data documented get to US authorities-I believe it will not even be necessary to reverse.
Asked about the reason for this confidence, Moraes said he was aware of internal divisions in the US government that delayed sanctions and can still weaken them.
